OUR STAFF

At Yarra Ranges Kindergartens, we believe that all children carry unseen within them the person they will become. In order to develop their physical, intellectual, and social abilities to the fullest, they must have freedom—freedom to be achieved through order and self-discipline.

BY CENTRE

MANAGEMENT

Rhonda Scoble – Administration Assistant

After being a stay at home mum for 10 years I am thrilled to now be employed by Yarra Ranges Kindergartens. Both my children attended Launching Place Preschool and during that time I was on the Parent Committee as Secretary, handling Scholastic Book orders and Cashier (not all at the same time).  My working background includes being a Demand Analyst, Personal Assistant & Customer Service.  My role as Administration Assistant is part time and I began assisting with a variety of tasks involved in the running of the cluster. I have since added Accounts Receivable and Credit Control to my role..

Elisa Forrestaff_Elisast – Group Leader

I am a diploma-trained educator, almost through my Bachelor of Early Years Studies to become a teacher. I have been working in early years education since 2007 in both childcare and preschool programs. I have an arts background and love creative play, music, dance and science. I am currently the 3/4yo educator for two preschools in the Upper Yarra valley. I believe that all children should be valued and respected and encouraged in every day opportunities for learning about themselves and others in their community. Every child comes from a family background that connects them to their own culture, which is important for us to embrace so they can learn that others may live differently thereby gaining an understanding of their world and working with others. This is why we offer play based learning in our 3/4yo programs for building up those social relationships, making decisions, problem-solving, language and turn taking. This allows children to explore new surroundings with others, developing their own knowledge and skills, learning about their own beliefs and how these can impact on others. Our programs offer a variety of experiences for both indoors and outdoors that focus on all developmental areas, drawing upon interests and strengths of the whole group as well as the children as individuals.

Manstaff_Mandydy Harrop – Educator

Starting in childcare in 1988, I have been an educator in the local community. It’s what I’ve always wanted to do since leaving school. From childcare, I moved on to Family Day Care whilst raising my family and I have been with Yarra Ranges Kindergartens since 2004, starting at Warburton Preschool and moving on to Launching Place Preschool. The educator’s job is an important one and I consider it to be the most rewarding job I have held. I really am one of the few people who can attest to genuinely loving my job watching the children and their families learn, develop and grow. This, to me, is satisfying, fun and fulfilling. Each of these children and their families are unique and diverse, which helps to create a vibrant learning environment for all of us, not just the children. It is also rewarding for me when I rekindle relationships with parents I previously had the pleasure of teaching when they were young as they enrol their own children at kinder. Having lived and worked in the Upper Yarra region all my life, I love bumping into families out of work and responding to a little voice, (sometimes a much older voice!), “Hi Mandy!”; that’s so nice. Kinders have come a long way in regards to educating children, preparing them for school and giving them skills to help further develop each child. Kinder is fun, dynamic and rewarding for the children and their families; it’s all that for me too, so thank you for allowing me to play a small part in your child’s education.

JOY AVENUE

Laura Warland – Teacher

Hi! My name is Laura. I have been working with children since 2003. I have a Bachelor of Teaching (birth to five years) and completed this after working my way through the Certificate III and Diploma qualifications; I wanted to keep building on the skills I was using every day with the group I was working alongside. I have taught in infant, toddler and pre-kinder rooms before working in a kinder setting. I enjoy building professional knowledge in better understanding and directing children’s behaviour, as well as extending my own ideas to create unique and fun sensory, art and craft experiences (that often get a bit messy!!). I also have a passion for animal welfare and volunteer at animal rescues when time permits.

Melanie Keagan – Teacher

I am the teacher of the Kookaburra’s group and have over 20 years’ experience working in various positions within early childhood education. I have a Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood) and a Master of Education (specialising in Early Childhood). I enjoy spending the year with the children and watching them learn, grow and develop. I am also a busy mother of three!

Annette Parr – Teacher

I completed my Bachelor of Early Childhood Education in 2013. During my 5 years of study I worked casually in both long day care and kindergarten settings. Having completed my kindergarten placement with Millgrove Preschool, I joined the Yarra Ranges Kindergartens relief list, which provided valuable working experience now I’m a permanent employee. I am finding it very rewarding working with the 3/4 year old groups, watching them develop their confidence, self-help and social skills. It has been a very exciting journey for me so far.

Lauren Morris – Educator

Hi my name is Lauren. I have completed my Diploma of Children’s Services and also my Certificate IV in Education Support (additional needs). I thoroughly enjoy working with children, engaging and encouraging their curiosity to explore the world around them. I particularly enjoy sharing my love of music with the children during our sessions together. When I’m not working at Joy Avenue Preschool, I teach singing to children of all ages. Lauren is currently on maternity leave and will return in 2017.

Carol Cooper – Educator

I have worked locally in child care since 2006. As I am diploma qualified, my previous position at child care was as a 3 year old room leader. I am passionate about good quality early childhood education. I enjoy being with and working with children, love watching them grow and become confident little people. I love to provide, plan and create stimulating environments for the children to explore and learn.

Beck Murray – Educator

I’m Beck – a proud mum of two children, Maddison and Ella, both of whom attended Joy Ave Preschool in 2008 and 2011, respectively.  I was a stay-at-home mum for several years, bringing up my girls and running my husband’s plumbing business.

My passion has always been working with children and I enjoy watching them grow and learn. Before starting my own family, I worked in long day care where I ran the babies room.

I enjoy helping out in my girls’ school canteen and have played an active role on their school’s Committee.

I hold a Diploma in Children’s Service’s and Certificate 3 in Educational Support.  I’m currently working with the 4/5-year-old group at Joy Ave Preschool and I am enjoying getting to know the children and their families.

Lancaster

Josie Waddingham -Teacher

My name is Josie and I am a graduate from the University of Melbourne, prior to becoming a teacher I was a veterinary nurse for 20+ years. I live at Chum Creek with my husband Andrew, son Tim and daughter Lucy with a menagerie of animals. I train horses using natural horsemanship methods and have a love of chickens. I enjoy hiking, kayaking, horse riding, cycling and spending time at the beach.

My teaching beliefs include:

  • Children have greater outcomes when they witness positive relationships between their family and educators, therefore I work on developing strong and open partnerships with families.
  • Early childhood is precious and therefore should be treasured and not merely a steppingstone to starting school.
  • It is important to help children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, perseverance and creativity as well as skills including problem solving, investigation & inquiry.
  • Children need open-ended materials and sufficient time to explore their environment and make sense of the world around them.
  • I’m passionate about developing children’s personal resilience, belief in their own ability and social competence.
  • Outdoor play is paramount when it comes to developing the child holistically and this is reflected in their ability to access the outdoor environment.
  • Children’s self-worth is fragile and should be treated as such.
Kerrie Gould – Educator

My name is Kerrie and I am a mum to two children, Jacob and Jessica. They both attended Lancaster Preschool for 3 and 4 year old kinder in 2010 to 2012 and are now attending St Peter Julian Eymard Primary School. We live within walking distance of the kinder, having moved to Mooroolbark in 2010, with our two dogs and our parrot. I have worked with children in many roles over the years including working with children with special needs in homes and at various schools, as a Nanny and as a teacher’s assistant at a technical school.
As a family we enjoy 4-wheel driving, camping and travelling. During the school term our lives revolve around the after school activities of dancing, basketball, and swimming. My kids and I are passionate AFL supporters (my husband says he is an AFL widow come winter!). We are at almost every St. Kilda game in Melbourne and usually one or two interstate games as well. Yes we really love our football! This position is a dream come true for me and I truly consider it an absolute privilege to have been chosen to be a part of your children’s lives and education.

Sarah Speranza – 3/4yo Group Leader

My name is Sarah and I am a proud mum to two boys Lachlan and Jacob. Lachlan is 5 and has just begun his schooling at Croydon Hills and Jacob is about to turn 3. I was a parent at Lancaster Preschool when my son Lachlan attended in 2015. He had such a wonderful year and when the opportunity came up to lead the 3-year-old group in 2016, I jumped at the chance. I love working with children and have experience in long day care and as a nanny since 2003. Just about every job I have ever had has involved children in some way! In my spare time you might find me at the gym, out riding bikes and exploring every playground Melbourne has to offer with my boys! We love going to the football to support the Bombers and if the chance arises we love heading to the MCG for any sporting event!

Rachelle Bartels – 3/4yo Educator

As a childhood educator, I believe in providing a kind and nurturing environment that is safe and includes children of all abilities and their families.
A space that fosters natural curiosity, spontaneous play and supports children’s creativity, self–expression and independence within a play-based learning environment where there is an emphasis on fun so the children feel comfortable to self-initiate play and explore at their own pace.
I like to promote problem solving skills and language development, whilst also gently guiding children to connect, imagine and embrace their world. I enjoy positive encouragement to build persistence and resilience as well as enriching their experience socially and emotionally.

LAUNCHING PLACE

Cath Wood – Teacher

I am a 4 year trained, early childhood teacher who has been teaching kinder aged children for over 30 years in 3 different states. I have lived in the Valley since moving to Victoria in 1999 and have been at launching Place Preschool since 2002. I presently teach the 4/5yo groups and act as the Educational Leader at the preschool. I have a passion for embracing the individuality of each child and supporting young children to achieve their potential in all areas of development and to develop skills needed for school and for life. Through place based learning, my kinder programs encourage children to develop strong personal and social skills and to follow their learning interests as they develop knowledge about themselves, their community and the wider world. I am also committed to developing positive partnerships with families. Children learn best when we base our program on the families we are working with to give children a firm base from which to branch out into further learning. I believe in offering a rich environment with a wide variety of indoor and outdoor experiences that draw on the interests and strengths of the children, their families and the community. My personal passions include sustainability and the environment, literacy and social justice and these are elements you will see reflected the programs offered at kinder. I am also an Exemplary Level teacher and use my wealth of knowledge and experience to provide support to other early childhood educators through mentoring programs and education networks.

Belinda Reyes – Educator

Working with children has always been a part of my career that began when I was 19 working at a Family Day Care Centre in Lilydale as a Mothercraft Nurse. From here I worked in several other day care centres in Melbourne, working as team leader in the 2-3 year old room and 3-5’s. The highlight of my career has been working as a nanny in England at Arundel Castle, caring for five children which was an amazing experience. I was lucky enough to learn to ski (average skier) with the Arundel family in Austria and then was lucky enough to travel with other families skiing in Whistler and Vancouver. I had a break from childcare for 3 years and studied Visual Arts for 2 years at NMIT and 1 year majoring in Sculpture at Monash University. I didn’t finish this course as I married and made my best sculpture ever, my son Mason who is 6. He loves gymnastics and is learning the drums (ear plugs – what was I thinking?). I am also a step mum to Ariel who is 11, obsessed with soccer and is mastering the cello.  I have two great boys! I am currently studying for my Bachelor of Education so I can work as a kindergarten teacher.  I love to hang with my family eating yummy food, getting out into the garden, being creative and exploring new places.

Donna Grace – Educator

I became a permanent member of the teaching staff of Yarra Ranges Kindergartens at the beginning of 2015 and you can usually find me at Launching Place Preschool. Call it déjà vu but previous to permanent employment, I undertook student placement at Launching Place while studying for my Diploma of Children’s Services, for which I received mostly high distinctions prior to graduation.
A local girl, I went to high school in the Upper Yarra Valley and I currently live locally with my husband and children. I have worked in a number of different early childhood settings and know this profession to be my chosen career.

Early childhood excites me and I get such a kick out of watching the children’s development. I believe in developing programs that reflect the Early Years Learning Framework and that allow the children to blossom with my guidance and through the expression of my own creativity. There are many personal qualities that an early childhood professional finds very helpful and amongst a number of them, I like to think that I am sensitive, empathetic and calm in a crisis!

MILLGROVE

Jo Schroeders – Teacher

I have been working for Yarra Ranges Kindergartens since 2008. I commenced as a 3/4 year old teacher at Woori Yallock Preschool. In 2011, I moved to Millgrove Preschool and now teach 3/4yo and 4/5yo children. I love working in Millgrove. It is the most beautiful area. The view from our yard includes the mountains which are sometimes snow-covered in winter; an amazing array of autumn colours and horses grazing or running in the adjoining paddocks. All my working life has been spent with children; in residential care, day care, preschools and most recently schools. I love the freshness, spontaneity and joy that working with children brings.

Danielle Kennedy – Educator

Danielle commenced with Yarra Ranges Kindergartens Inc., first as a relief assistant while her children were small then was appointed permanent educator at Launching Place Preschool in 2010. MONTROSE

Sharleen Mitchell – Teacher

I have been teaching since 1986, completing my Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood) at the Institute of Early Childhood Development in Melbourne. I began my teaching experience in the western suburbs: St Albans and Deer Park, with part time groups and even a Saturday morning session! I moved on to Clayton, teaching children from non-English speaking backgrounds, for 15 years. I then made the move to Montrose Preschool and have been here since. I have loved working in Montrose and value the strong sense of community here. I feel a sound connection with the families in the area, having taught several siblings from the same family who return to the preschool over many years. I believe that preschool is a very important year in the educational life of your child. The early years are vital in that basic attitudes, skills and knowledge are formed, on which the child build as he or she proceeds with their education. I continue to find joy each day in engaging with delightful, curious, eager and yes, sometimes challenging learners!

“Children fascinate me… I love watching them grow and develop, guiding their learning through following the children’s interests, using play as a tool to learn. Each child brings their own qualities to the group of children. Belonging is an important part of our program as well as creativity, problem-solving, emotional coaching and social development. It is wonderful to be able to work in such a warm and caring community and environment.”

Sue North – Teacher

I am a teacher at Montrose Preschool, teaching both the 3/4yo and 4/5yo groups. I live locally and am a wife, mother and grandmother of three. I have been working at Montrose since 2011 and thoroughly enjoy it here. I work with wonderful teaching staff and we complement each other with our own special talents. Coming to work each day is a journey of discovery with the children. I love to question the children why things happen, how can we further investigate and what can we learn. I love to see the children grow and develop and I am lucky enough, being the 3/4yo teacher, to watch them over two years, seeing the children off to school full of wonder and ready to learn.

Michele Howard – Educator

I have a son and a daughter and lots of little children – the kindergarten kind! My husband and I have lived in this area our whole lives. I returned to school in 2005 when my youngest child was at kinder. I obtained my Certificate 3 in Disability and Integration. As a result of doing student placement at Mt Evelyn Special Developmental School, I was asked to stay on permanently, which I did for two years. From there, I worked at numerous kindergartens as an Additional Assistant while furthering my studies and gaining my Certificate 3 in Children’s Services. In 2009, I was lucky enough to be start at Montrose Preschool as Assistant during which time I have also obtained a Diploma in Children’s Services. I love my job, the staff and the children here. Not a day passes when I don’t laugh and not everyone can say that about their workplace.

Alana Hamilton –Educator

I was very lucky to be a stay-at-home mum but once my youngest children went to school, I completed a Certificate 3 in Children’s Services. At the beginning of 2011, I started work at Montrose Preschool, assisting both 3/4yo and 4/5yo groups. I really enjoy getting to know all the wonderful children and their families. I love the children’s honesty, their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. I have a lovely husband and am the mother of three gorgeous children. As I live locally, it is not uncommon to spot me around the place.

WARBURTON

Melissa Camp – Teacher

I qualified as a teacher in 1993 and hold a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education). I have experience in a range of early childhood settings across both the 3yo and 4-5yo age groups. I had a 15 year teaching break working for a federal government department, during which time I got married and started a family. I have two children; Sienna and Aidan. When Sienna started kindergarten, I realised how much I had missed teaching and in 2011 began working as a relief teacher at a number of preschools throughout the eastern suburbs. I was lucky enough to join the Yarra Ranges Kindergartens Inc. family in 2012 as the 3/4yo teacher at Woori Yallock and Launching Place Preschools. In 2013, I was appointed as the 4/5yo teacher at Warburton. I am also qualified in First Aid, Asthma, Allergy and Anaphylaxis management and Epipen® administration. I have a real passion for working with children and watching them grow and learn. I enjoy both the challenge and great rewards teaching brings.

Emily Jennings – Educator & Group Leader

Living in the Upper Yarra valley all my life, I attended Woori Yallock Preschool in 1995 as an enrolled child but began my working life in early childhood education in 2009. Prior to that I had worked with primary aged children teaching classroom music. My career in preschools began purely by chance and the fact I had a Working With Children’s Check! I was terrified but I loved it and have worked with Yarra Ranges Kindergartens ever since! As of 2013, I became educator for both 3/4 and 4/5 year old groups at Warburton Preschool and in 2015 I began as group leader for the 3/4 year old group. I am qualified with a Diploma of Children’s Services but in the future I wish to study further and attain a teaching degree. For me, Warburton Preschool is a wonderfully calming yet invigorating and inspiring place. The surging Yarra River, towering gums, hordes of birdlife – yeah, that’s where I hang out! I see the great importance in and have a true passion for music, our natural environment, creativity and individuality – all of which I incorporate into my teaching style. Guiding the development of our eager, curious and delightful children and their families is fulfilling and rewarding. Man, I love my job!

Meagan Lamont – Educator

My name is Meagan and I currently reside in the picturesque Yarra Valley with my fiancé and two gorgeous children, one of whom attends the four year group at Warburton Preschool. After completing my VCE I decided on a gap year and began studying my Diploma of Children’s Services at Swinburne University of Technology in 2008. I started working in long day care and found I had an immense love and passion for my chosen vocation. I always say I didn’t choose it, it chose me.

Witnessing the impact that myself and my colleagues were having on the lives of children from as young as 6 weeks to 5 years was truly amazing. Making them laugh, smile and teaching them basic life skills I came to the realisation that I was planting the seeds to scaffold a child’s learning for future years. This was both a thrill and a challenge, one I take very seriously but in the most jovial way possible!
After a four year hiatus I am delighted to be back at work, doing what I love and loving what I do. Albeit with a different perspective due to having more life experience, the kind that stems from becoming a parent. The final part of my five year plan (that has now kind of stretched out to almost 7 years, with the addition of my children!!) is to study the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and upon completion fulfil my dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher – the kind of teacher that children remember well into their adult lives, for only good reasons of course!

WOORI YALLOCK

Adel Novak – Teacher

I am the 4/5yo teacher at Woori Yallock Preschool. I have worked at the kinder since 1999, with a little time off to start a family. I am very passionate about my position and have the wonderful opportunity of working with families within the community and their children. I believe every child is a unique person, with their own interests and learning styles. I provide the opportunity, space and time to interact within a meaningful environment where a child can construct new ideas and develop existing knowledge. I provide a learning environment that reflects this belief, providing opportunities to explore, experiment, create, investigate and wonder. I believe in each child’s capacity to succeed.

Mary Williams – Educator

My name is Mary Williams and I have been preschool assistant at Woori Yallock since 2008. I have experience caring and teaching young children spanning over 30 years. In fact, I started working part time at Woori Yallock when the younger of my two children started school. Don Valley Preschool was opened and the teacher and I moved there for two years while the new Launching Place Preschool was being built and opened in 1986. We moved there and set up Launching Place Preschool from scratch – purchasing furniture and play equipment etc… This was a very exciting time for staff, children and the community. I have worked with many educatorsx over the years and have gained a wealth of knowledge in preschool education. I was at Launching Place Preschool for 25 years and celebrated two important anniversaries: the kinder’s 20th birthday and my own 20 years’ service, which was recognised by the unveiling of a plaque at the kinder acknowledging my dedication to hundreds of children and their families. This is a very special memory that I treasure. Now I have come full circle and am back at Woori Yallock Preschool.
